Most of the times in wild, injured, sick and disabled off springs are rejected by their parents and in other cases their herds. Ellie, this baby elephant featured in the video below was also rejected by her herd because of her health conditions. Fortunately, she was rescued by The Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage in South Africa. But as the name suggests, this orphanage only rescues and takes care of the rhinos who have become victims of poaching. However, they made an exception for Ellie, who was firstly named Ubuntu.
Ellie was depressed and lethargic when she first came to the orphanage. As she was rejected by her own herd, she didn’t have anyone to play with nor had the motivation to live. But then, the orphanage brought in a German shepherd named Duma. As soon as they met each other, they became best friends. Because of this friendship, Ellie became as healthy and happy as any elephant baby could get.
