A fox was found in the middle of a road in Leatherhead Surrey, severely injured after a hit and run accident. She was taken to the Wildlife Aid Foundation’s (WAF) veterinary hospital, during which she went through several fits. After she was sedated for proper examination, doctors discovered that she was pregnant with six cubs.
They decided to fix her up and leave it to nature to take its course for birth, so that the entire family could be released back to the wild together. But after the birth of one cub, the mother showed signs of neurological trauma. She abandoned the baby and it died. So the doctors decided to perform an emergency c-section to protect the rest of the cubs. This is the first cesarean ever to be performed on a fox. The five remaining babies are well and they will be hand raised by the staff at WAF until they are six months of age.
