When it comes to female country music stars, every one of us think about Dolly Parton. However, she is not the original classic country queen nor is Patsy Cline. The honor belongs to the one and only Kitty Wells. She is the pioneering female country music singer who broke down a female barrier in country music with her 1952 hit recording “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angles”. This song made her the first female country singer to top the U.S. country charts.

However, she didn’t have it easy. The song was intitally banned from being played on the NBC series when it debuted.
