The probability of twin foals being born alive is extremely rare; one in 10,000. So when this horse became pregnant with twins in 2014, the students at the College of Veterinary medicine at Oregon State University got this unbelievable chance to witness a miracle. According to Dr. John Schlipf, throughout his 30 years of career, he had only witnessed this occurrence twice.
Because the occurrence was rare and dangerous, the students from the university cared for the foals 24/7. The twins, later named Mocha and Cappuccino, were unable to nurse from their mom, so the hospital had to provide them with the necessary support to stay alive. Mocha was the smaller of the two and was treated for angular limb deformity.
