It’s amazing to know that we share many similarities with other primates, especially the great apes. Gorillas are our closest cousins and we share 95% of our DNA with them. Their social nature and many physical characteristics resemble ours. One gorilla in Kent Zoo is taking this family resemblance even further!
Ambam, the silverback gorilla in Kent Zoo, has learned to stand on his hind legs. He is the only one among his band to show such behavior. He must have learned it after seeing keepers and visitors at the zoo doing the same. He’s progressed even further, by taking longer and longer strides upright. These creatures’ intelligence and ability to learn never fails to amaze me!
