Roughly 8% men and 0.5% women are affected by color blindness. Men are approximately 100 times more often affected than women by this condition. Opie Hughes is one of those men. He is red-green colorblind and this makes it difficult for him to differentiate between those two colors. Though this is an interesting topic of discussion among many, most people don’t know how hard it is for those that have to live with it.
This video shows Opie experience normal color for the first time and it is truly heart-touching. He knew what he was getting for his birthday, but he wasn’t prepared for what had missed all his life. His glasses are made by EnChroma, a Berkeley based company that makes unique lenses in a variety of styles and even customizes lenses to fit your personal frames.
