Veronica Scott created a coat for her class assignment; it looks like a normal jacket, but it can actually work as a sleeping bag too. She decided to try it out on homeless people and get their feedback about it. But one day, she got yelled at by a homeless woman, and that event changed hers and many peoples’ lives for the better.
The Empowerment Plan is the Detroit-based non-profit organization that educates and employs homeless women to create coats that transform into sleeping bags, which are then given to the homeless. This project was started in 2011 by 24 years old Veronica Scott. Raised by drug addicted parents, Veronica knew about struggle and she wanted to help other people suffering like her. Her project has now improved the lives of many homeless people and is truly inspiring to see the progress that she has brought about.
